Grand opening of ‘Ulu o Lele in Lahaina set for Nov. 10
The County of Maui and Hawaiian Council, with support from the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, will hold a grand opening for ʻUlu o Lele on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The interim marketplace sits at the former Outlets of Maui site, at the corner of Waineʻe and Papalaua streets, and is meant to give local businesses a place to reopen while Lahaina rebuilds.
Festivities run from 1 to 8 p.m., and Common Kings take the stage at 8:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
"Restoring Lahaina's commercial district means helping local business owners return and giving people reasons to come back and support them," Mayor Richard Bissen said.
The county says that of 36 affected properties on the mauka side of Front Street, two have building permits, four applications are under review and 16 are on a path to rebuilding. Hawaiian Council is leading the project with money from its Kākoʻo Maui Fund and a $4 million grant from HCF's Maui Strong Fund.
